A few weekends back three of us embarked on our own overland to Cape Brett. Considered by many as one of the best hikes in New Zealand, Cape Brett is absent from the list of “Great Walks” and as a result is a quieter, more peaceful tramp than some of its counterparts – but it is no less epic. Highlights of the trip include stunning views, peaceful surroundings and there is a taxi service that will pick you up from the DOC hut if you are too tired the next morning. Or, like us, you can walk halfway back to Deep Water Cove and get picked up from there. Here is some of the magic we experienced along the way.
